At Sonneveld Orthodontics, we’re proud offer a variety of orthodontic treatments to patients of all ages in Oak Forest, Tinley Park, and Orland Park, IL. While braces are our most popular treatment, they’re not the only option, and clear aligners is one of the most convenient alternatives. Clear aligners are a removable, virtually invisible orthodontic treatment that can help a wide range of patients achieve a new smile – and if you’re wondering if clear aligners are right for you, we can help.
1. Your Orthodontic Condition Is Moderate, Not Severe
Clear aligners can treat a wide range of orthodontic conditions, but in some cases, there are malocclusions (bad bites) that are too severe for clear aligners to treat. In these cases, we may recommend pursuing braces or another form of orthodontic treatment. That said, clear aligner technology has advanced significantly since first hitting the market, and clear aligners can treat many of the most common orthodontic problems.
2. You’re a Teenager or Adult
Clear aligners are a convenient, popular option for both teenagers and adults, but we don’t recommend clear aligners for early orthodontic treatment. Compliance can be difficult for children, and clear aligners are less effective at treating baby teeth. For this reason, we only recommend clear aligners for adults and Clear Aligners Teen for adolescents.
3. You’re Committed to Achieving a New Smile
Clear aligners are removable aligners that are extremely convenient, but they can also pose a challenge. Despite how easy it is to remove the aligners for eating and oral hygiene, they only work while they’re in your mouth and on your teeth – so it’s possible to slow down clear aligners therapy if you aren’t wearing the aligners enough. Success with clear aligners requires diligence in wearing your aligners, so you’ll have to keep that in mind before choosing it as a treatment method.
